Dial 911 for Emergency Response

Wildland Fire Danger

April 1 marks the official start to the summer wildland fire season in Alaska.  Permits for open burning from the State of Alaska, DNR - Division of Forestry are required during this time each year.

Local VFD's may require an open burning permit in addition to State permits, and contact with your nearest VFD should be made before you attempt to burn debris anytime of the year.

Wildland Fire suppression in the upper Lynn Canal is the responsibility of the State of Alaska Division of Forestry in cooperation with all local Fire Departments.  To report Forest Fires directly to the Haines State Forestry office during regular business hours (8am-5pm M-F) dial 766-2120.   Dial 911 at all other times.  Please remember that you are responsible for fires you start and be careful with all potential fire hazards.

Wildland Fire Danger is an index of potential hazard when burning. Be aware that as weather conditions change, so will the wildland fire danger index!
